Revolt by Geraint Clarke
Revolt is a collection of card divinations using a borrowed shuffled deck of cards with no gimmicks – Essential, Alter Ego and Momentum. I will be using Momentum and Alter Ego in my future casual performances. I will go over each divination and give my thoughts.
Essential: this is a clever combination of common mentalism principles. The routine is well choreographed and every “move” is well covered by the patter. This is my least favourite divination on the download because if the spectator doesn’t shuffle very well, it will be harder to name the card. As a teenager who mostly performs at school, kids don’t shuffle well (they hardly can do an overhand, numerous times I have had cards thrown on the floor and mixed around :P) If you are around people with experience playing poker, etc. you should be fine.
Alter Ego: my personal favourite on the download. This does use a stack, but if you know your culling, this should be a breeze. If not, it will take about thirty seconds to get into the stack. The routine itself is very easy to do and this could be played off to huge proportions if you wanted to. By far the best effect on the download.
Momentum: a clever use of an everyday object to peek a card. The routine is very easy, and very clever. The peek takes less then a second and needs almost no practice. I have already used this and works well with my performances because school lunch tables are crowded with objects (this object is almost always there) so it is pretty much impromptu.
I love it.
Overall, this was well taught. It was shot in a noisy cafe with him speaking to the camera, Murphy’s did an excellent job handling the audio. The video was high quality and well mic’d. Performances with Kyle Marlett were a delight to watch. For $6, you are getting 3 killer card divinations which you can take the concepts from and create your own. Very good.
